Finally those cold winter days are leaving and spring is on its way in. When the birds start chirping again and the trees are budding that means it is time for spring cleaning once again. You might not think spring cleaning should carry over to your business, but it definitely should! Cramped or cluttered spaces can reduce efficiency and even lower employee satisfaction. That’s why it’s important to take some time to get your medical office in order this spring.
If you are planning to retire soon and close your practice, this is especially important because you’ll have to clean the entire place out soon anyways. We get it, no one likes cleaning. Thankfully, My Retired Doctor is here to give you a few tips to make spring cleaning your medical practice a breeze!
Examine Your Space
The first step to getting your medical office in order is to take a good look at it. What areas are cluttered? What areas could be reorganized to free up space? Is there broken or badly worn furniture that needs to be taken care of? Are you filing cabinets spilling out? These are all questions to ask yourself—and your staff—so you can develop an action plan to tackle spring cleaning head on.
Make a To-Do List & Go Top-Down
After looking at everything that needs to be done, put the list in order from the most critical and important tasks to the less important or cumbersome ones. You will also want to employ at top-down approach. This means cleaning cobwebs out of fan spokes, then dust from filing cabinets and then shampooing the carpet. Dust will trickle down so you’ll want to start from the top to avoid re-cleaning.
Get Rid of Clutter
One of the biggest detractors from production and efficiency is clutter. So, one of the critical tasks on your list should be removing clutter and getting organized. That means going through junk drawers or storage cabinets, getting rid of expired medications or samples that you have on hand, disposing on broken medical supplies and outdated mail and magazines. Last but not least, get your medical files organized.
